19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Medvedev secured his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has endured a challenging period, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer his previous coach.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a hard-fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is his first championship following the Rome competition and first on a hard court since March of that year.
The win also indicates Medvedev has secured 21 titles at 21 different competitions.
"For the first time I have attended a event with my children simultaneously, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in the German tournament earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led some to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and play assertively, backed up by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
Both players swapped service breaks in the following set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional victory, seized the initiative to push for a third set.
The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a close final set before the champion secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, he secured victory with a rally at the net area, with Moutet incapable to manage a shot after a lengthy match.
